Ambulatory of the Baptistry of Saint John, Firenze Like most buildings of its type, the Baptistery is encircled by an ambulatory, i.e. a first storey aisle bordered by an arcade of columns and arches. The tall arched windows of the ambulatory illuminate the space below. The smaller square windows on the drum beneath the dome provide additional light. © 2007 LACT Limited. All rights reserved.
