World Famous Pictures in the Uffizi: Madonna of the Long Neck (1634) in Room 29

This painting by Parmigianino is famous as an example of the anti-classical mannerism which followed the Renaissance period. The artist is not concerned with the anatomical correctness of his figures but seeks instead to convey ideas and emotions through odd unexpected inaccuracies such as, for example, the long neck of this Madonna which emphasises the loving gaze of a proud mother.
