Gothic Art in the Uffizi

 

After the vestibule the first rooms of the Uffizi display masterpieces of 13th century Gothic art such as this picture of the Madonna Enthroned by Giotto. These works enable the visitor to appreciate the shift away from the stilted conventions of flat two-dimensional Byzantine art to the more natural and emotional depictions of the pre-Renaissance period.
