Palazzo Nuovo in the Piazza del Capidoglio, Rome The Palazzo Nuovo is on the left side of the Piazza del Capidoglio as the visitor approaches the Capitoline Hill by climbing Michelangelo's ramp, the Cordonata. The palace, like the Palazzo dei Conservatori on the right side of the square, forms part of the Capitoline museum complex. Work commenced in 1471 but the palace was not completely finished until 1654. It houses numerous ancient artefacts, most notably the original equestrian statue of the philosopher emperor, Marcus Aurelius. © 2007 LACT Limited. All rights reserved.
