Bell Tower of the Palazzo Senatorio on the Capitoline in Rome

The Palazzo Senatorio is topped by a bell tower which was designed by Martino Longhi the Elder in the mid-16th century after the destruction of the previous tower by lightening. The tower houses the campana patarina, the bell brought here from the neighbouring city of Viterbo in the 12th century which is thought to be at least 1200 years old. The statue on the summit of the tower is of Minerva, the ancient Roman Goddess once worshipped on the Capitoline.
