The Palazzo Senatorio as seen from the Forum Romana This is a view of the rear of the Palazzo Senatorio which overlooks the remains of the Forum Romana. In the days of ancient Rome the buildings on the Capitoline faced the forum so as to create an impressive visual axis. Michelangelo, however, turned his buildings away from the remains of pagan Rome and towards Saint Peters. As a result the ancient forum, the former centre of Rome, is now overlooked by the drab rear of the Palazzo Senatorio. © 2007 LACT Limited. All rights reserved.
